Colour enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Agrias claudina lugens butterfly scales. Agrias claudina is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family, which is found across South America. The subspecies A.c. lugens, also known as the Brush-Footed butterfly, is found in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Venezuela. The top wings are dominated by impressive red, blue, and black colours, in contrast to the underside of the hind wings which feature stunning patterns. Magnification 300x when printed 12.7cm.
