Dandelion plant stem. Light micrograph of a transverse section through a stem of a dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis). The outer layer is the epidermis and cuticle (red-blue). Below this is the lamella collenchyma (blue) and a cortex of parenchyma cells (blue-pink). Below this is a ring of vascular bundles (green), including phloem, cambium and xylem tissues. Between the vascular bundles are medullary rays of parenchyma cells. At the centre of the stem is the pith of parenchyma cells (white-pink-blue). Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
