Poppy fruit. Light micrograph of a longitudinal section through the fruit of a Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica), showing the seeds (small dots). The fruit capsule has an outer wall (pericarp). The eight fused chambers have incomplete radial walls or septa (blue). These septa are where the seeds form. The bottom of the fruit capsule bears a ring of scars and vascular bundles the remains of dehisced petals and stamens. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres high.
