Caption

Anechoic tile. Technician cleaning an anechoic polyurethane tile that was developed as an acoustic absorber for sonar frequency water tanks. The tiles are very absorbant and minimise echoes (reflection) of water-borne sound above a frequency of 20 kilohertz. These tiles are used to provide the conditions needed for underwater acoustic tests.
