B-Factory

A huge particle detector, called Babar, costing $85 million and weighing over 1200 tonnes has just been built to try and reveal why we exist in the universe. Scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) will try to smash together electrons and positrons to produce B-mesons and their anti-matter counterparts. Detecting the differences at which these particles decay will hold the key as to why matter exists.
