50 Years Of Genetics Research

The discovery of the double helix structure of DNA by Watson & Crick in 1953 marked the start of a genetics revolution which has seen many milestones and accomplishments such as: cracking the genetic code of bases, define the number of chromosomes in a human, create monoclonal antibodies, genetically engineer different organisms, invent DNA fingerprinting, create new vaccines, map genomes, alter foods and clone animals. That paper published in 1953 has rightly been called the greatest biological achievement of the last 100 years.
