Scientists all over the world are engaged in a race to unravel the next big challenge after the publication of the human genome - the human proteome. By analysing the proteins produced by specific genes, scientists hope to improve drug development and disease diagnosis by targeting drug therapy more accurately. The task is not easy, as no one really knows the total number of human proteins in the body and the fragile nature of proteins makes study very difficult.
