Pollen Under The Microscope

Pollen is the culprit for millions of hay fever sufferers every year. But pollen is also a wonder of nature. Packed into tiny grains smaller than the eye can see, pollen contains the male sex cells of flowering plants. They must travel long distances either by wind or carried on the bodies of animals to another plant of the same species. The myriad of amazing shapes and structures are shown here under the power of the electron microscope.
