Invention is a peculiar human trait. At any moment in time, someone, somewhere is trying to perfect a better mousetrap or a new treatment for baldness. Most inventions are deliberate: the inventor knows what he or she wants to create. Others are the result of serendipity: where someone accidentally invents something while looking for something entirely different. Some of these accidental inventions, like the Pap smear test, are life-savers. Others, like Velcro, simply make everyday life that much easier. But they all have something in common: they are all the result of human curiosity, perseverance and luck.
