Turbulent Art Of Pery Burge

These abstract images may resemble the violent explosions of a supernova or the colourful atmospheres of alien planets. But they are actually much nearer to home: macroscopic photographs of coloured inks spreading in water. And, although they were created by an artist, Pery Burge, they are not just pretty pictures: these swirling, turbulent patterns offer insights into the dynamics of fluid movements - something that scientists, using the world’s most powerful supercomputers, are also studying with surprisingly similar results.
