Researchers in France have taken a major new step in the field of high temperature superconductivity. The team at France's National Centre for Scientific Research have achieved superconductivity (the phenomena of electricity transmission with virtually no loss of energy) at 250 degrees Kelvin, 117 degrees warmer than the previous record. If this work is corroborated by other researchers there could be a revolution in all areas of modern technology - more sensitive medical equipment, super efficient trains which glide of frictionless tracks and far cheaper satellite communications.
