Everyday items such as disposable nappies, sticky labels and cleaning cloths are revealed as techological miracles by the penetrating gaze of the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The striking images together with the text explain how 'breathable' waterproof fabrics of the more expensive raincoats prevent water from going through while at the same time allowing perspiration to escape, how pan-cleaners can clean non-stick pans without scratching, why the glue on post-it notes remains sticky, and how biodegradeable plastics break down. The beautifully coloured SEMs can also be appreciated as miniature works of art.
