An army of scientists is using the most powerful machine of it's kind to probe deep inside the atom. CEBAF - the Continuous Beam Accelerator Facility - is 1.4 kilometres long and accelerates electrons from zero to 300,000 kilometres per second in 30 millionths of a second flat. The machine, buried ten metres beneath a suburb Newport News, Virginia, is designed to study the ultimate building blocks of matter and the bizarre force that binds them together: the strongest force in the universe.
